'July 1942: the First Intake of ATS [Auxiliary Territorial Service] Students for MI8 [Military Intelligence, Section 8] at Bletchley Park', 1942 - 2007
Scope and Contents
Barbara Wallis' reminiscences about her own experiences and those of other Girton, Newnham and London University students, working at Bletchley Park during World War II. The manuscript covers her training, work at Bletchley, the billets, health and welfare, time off and the end of the war. Written in connection with an article on Bletchley Park compiled from extracts of accounts of several Girtonians which appeared in the Girton College Annual Review 2001.
Later additions to the file include Barbara Wallis' Bletchley Park Veteran's badge, a Royal British Legion Badge, 'Freedom of the Park' pass, and a photograph of Barbara Wallis outside the reconstructed Hut 3, taken circa 2005 with notes on reverse and a letter (26 December 2007) explaining the work on GAF [German Air Force] decoding which took place in the Hut in 1942.
