Biographical writing on Bessie Rayner Parkes, 1935 - 1990
Scope and Contents
This section comprises largely correspondence and papers relating to biographical writing on Bessie Rayner Parkes and other people connected with her. Much of the material appears to have been collected by Marie Belloc Lowndes, daughter of Bessie, who wrote ‘Before she found Arcadia: the Early Life and Friendships of Bessie Rayner Parkes’. Correspondents include Elizabeth Iddesleigh (older daughter of Marie Belloc Lowndes); Susan Lowndes Marques (younger daughter of Marie Belloc Lowndes); Margaret Crompton, who wrote ‘'Prelude to Arcadia: The early life and friendships of Bessie Parkes' (unpublished biography - see GCPP Parkes 15/70); and Thomas Palfrey (a researcher with a particular interest in Louise Swanton Belloc).
