Scrapbook, 1957 - 2001
Scope and Contents
Janet herself describes her scrapbook as a ‘slice of life’ from its time and says that, during her Girton years, she amassed ‘all sorts of memorabilia from those busy times which I immediately turned into an informal scrapbook on coming down. I called this ‘Three Light Blue Years: Cambridge Vintage 1960’. It measures 40 x 25 cm and contains 16 collaged black pages [in a light blue card scrapbook]. These reflect my Girton life as well as involvement in many Cambridge theatrical productions, including British Council tours of Germany’. The memorabilia pasted into the scrapbook comprise chiefly photographs, invitations, press cuttings, programmes, poems and drawings. Most items were pasted into the scrapbook in 1960, with a few items added in later years. Some pages also have handwritten additions such as keys to names, menus, quotes, drawings and captions. The pages are described individually below, beginning with the cover as page 1, followed by a description for each side, eg pages 2 and 3 describe both sides of the first black page.
