 Series
Reference Code: GBR/0271/GCPP Gamble 1

Scope and Contents

This series contains her literary works (drama, verse and translations), anthologies and a journal. Dramatic works consist of manuscripts, and in some cases, proofs, of 20 plays. The subject matter is historical. They are written in blank verse, usually in five acts. In the College Library there are published copies of 16 of these plays, and also of two others of which the manuscripts and proofs are not in the archive. Her verse consists of four manuscript collections of poetry. The College Library also holds one published volume, of which the manuscript is not in the archive. Translations consist of manuscripts of one play and one fragment of a play (Goethe) and two collections of poetry (Agostino, Goethe, Hugo, De Stael, etc.). The Agostino volume was published. There are three manuscript volumes of anthology labelled ‘Quotations’, a personal anthology of poetry and prose in English, French, Italian and German. Her journal, a loose-leaf manuscript, ‘Fragments of a Life’, covers the years 1837 to 1879.
