Girton College Jubilee 1919, 1914 - 1920
Scope and Contents
Girton College, Cambridge celebrated its Jubilee, that is to say fifty years since its foundation, in 1919, with a formal day of celebrations on July 26th and a day of informal hospitality on July 27th. Emily Davies was unable to attend but Louisa Lumsden, one of the 'Girton Pioneers' was present, as was Mr Sedley Taylor. Guests numbered between 800 and 900, including around 400 former students. Guests on the 26th were addressed by the Rt Hon H A L Fisher, MP, President of the Board of Education. A fuller report of the two days of events is contained in the Jubilee Number of the Girton Review (issued in 1920 as a supplement to the Girton Review). The papers listed here comprise press cuttings, correspondence, photographs, and a Latin Address made from Newnham College to Girton to mark the occasion; also an address to Emily Davies from past and present students and ED's reply. It would appear unlikely that these papers were collected by ED herself.
