Unpublished Work, 1930 - 1963
Scope and Contents
This section includes the 'Textos - ' (GCPP Crews 4/2), a number of stories and ballads from Salonica and Sarajevo. These have a particular value in that resources of this kind have become increasingly rare. As a result of World War II and other political factors, the available evidence has been vastly reduced. Even where Judaeo-Spanish is still spoken, political and educational circumstances have greatly affected the individual dialects through the predominating influence of the better represented and linguistically less interesting forms of the language. The article on Oriental and Moroccan Judaeo-Spanish (GCPP Crews 4/3) demonstrates the breadth of CC's study of Judaeo-Spanish. There are also translations of modern Turkish short stories (GCPP Crews 4/4) and three short general papers on Judaeo-Spanish, as read to various societies (GCPP Crews 4/5). However, the most important item in the entire Crews collection is her card index for a projected Judaeo-Spanish dictionary - see GCPP Crews 4/1.
