There are 25 boxes of correspondence in all. This section includes both personal correspondence and academic correspondence. It is arranged broadly chronologically, though a number of miscellaneous files have been placed at the end of the sequence, regardless of date.

The composite name index mentioned in the main introduction to the collection is of particular use here in tracing individual correspondents, many of whose letters are scattered throughout this section.
