Christine Macqueen was born on 4 October 1925 at Hampstead, north London, daughter of John Melven Macqueen, professional chemist, and Florence Winifred [Winnie] Margetts. Educated at Henrietta Barnett School, Hampstead, Garden Suburb, she then studied Natural Sciences at Girton College, 1943-46 before training as a teacher at Cambridge Training College 1946-47. She taught at North London Collegiate School 1947-51 before training at Kingsmead College, Birmingham to be a local preacher. Christine then undertook voluntary service overseas, teaching English at a girls’ school in Madras [now Chennai], India from 1952, becoming its headmistress for a time. She later ran a teacher training college in India; then returned to Britain on her retirement in 1989, where she remained active in Eastcote Methodist Church, Pinner, Middlesex.
