Personal Papers of Pamela Fenton, 1939 - 1945
Scope and Contents
Small notebook containing chiefly pencil notes of French and Spanish vocabulary and grammar dating both from Pamela Fenton’s schooldays and from her first few terms at Girton. The notebook also contains a few notes on French and Spanish literature, names of supervisors / lecturers and supervision / lecture times and P F’s timetable for Michaelmas Term 1945, together with doodles and a few personal notes, including a reference to ration books on the inside cover.
The notebook clearly belonged to Pamela Fenton but the name Agnes Dorothy Fatima Lodhi-Hyder is also pencilled onto the covers. Agnes was presumably a friend of Pamela Fenton. She was born in Delhi in 1926, the daughter of Lodhi Karim Hyder, Professor of Economics, and Stephanie Wolfsohn. Like Pamela, Agnes was educated at St Leonard’s School, St Andrews, before coming to Girton College, where she studied Classics from 1944 to 1947. She then attended the London School of Medicine from 1947 to 1953. She was a GP in Ipswich from 1960 to 1982, the year in which she died.
