Personal papers of Marjorie Docking, 2011 - 2013
Scope and Contents
File containing an address given at Marjorie Docking's funeral in 2013 by Reverend Lance Stone and a personal memoir compiled by Marjorie Docking in 2011.
The funeral address draws largely for information on the memoir.
Marjorie Docking wrote her memoir by hand in a spiral bound notebook over a period of time in 2011 when she was in her mid-80s. It is divided into three main sections: the first gives detailed requests for arrangements to be made on her death and for her funeral; the second covers her education and working life, including Girton College; the third describes activities other than work, both before and after retirement, including Sunday School; the Crusaders (an organisation which ‘sought to supplement’ the work of the church; the Old Girls’ Association of the Cambridge County School for Girls; Cherry Hinton Road Free Church (which later became the United Reformed Church); ‘Tuesday Fellowship’ (a women’s fellowship group); and visits to care homes, including Hinton Grange Care Home.
