Scope and Contents

Six certificates awarded to Margaret Church, as follows:
1) University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate school certificate awarded to Margaret Church of Princess Mary High School, Halifax, July 1940;
2) Girton College certificate declaring that Margaret Church is a certificated student of the College, having qualified for the title of the degree of Bachelor of Arts of the University of Cambridge, 24 June 1946, signed K M Peace;
3) University of Cambridge certificate of the title of the degree of Bachelor of Arts awarded to Margaret Church, 10 July 1946;
4) Certificate of training awarded to Margaret Church by the Cambridge Training College for Women, June 1947, signed E Marguerite Verini, Principal;
5) University of Cambridge certificate awarded to Margaret Church on passing the examination in theory, history and practice of education and in practical efficiency in teaching, June 1947;
6) University of Cambridge certificate of admission of Margaret Church to the degree of Master of Arts, 27 May 1950.

Biographical / Historical

Margaret Church was born in Halifax in 1924, the daughter of Francis Harold Church, a grocery manager, and Sarah Sharp, a bookkeeper and cashier. She was educated at the Princess Mary High School, Halifax and came to Girton College as an Exhibitioner in 1943 to study mathematics. She trained as a teacher at the Cambridge Training College for Women , 1946-47, and taught at Queenswood School, Hatfield, Hertfordshire. Margaret Church died in December 2014.
