Biographical / Historical

Born in Bradford in 1922, Sheila Crawford attended the Grammar School, Bingley, then came up to read Natural Sciences at Girton from 1941 to 1944. After a diploma in Education at Oxford in 1945, she went on to become Physics Mistress at Leeds Girls High School. After some years teaching she went into research for Imperial Chemical Industries [ICI] based in Welwyn, Hertfordshire then in Manchester, publishing a number of articles and reports on physics-related subjects including high polymers, then returned to teaching in Yorkshire in 1963 at Crossley and Porter School in Halifax until her retirement in 1981. She died on 4 May 2008.
