Scope and Contents

Papers relating to the posthumous admission of Colin Tyler to a Barbara Bodichon Foundation Fellowship, represented by his sons David and Richard, at Girton on Monday 12 July 2021, including:
1) Dinner menu (2 page pdf);
2) Speeches given by the Mistress and the Praelector at the admission ceremony (4 page Word document);
3)Seating plan for three tables at the dinner (1 page pdf);
4) ‘Colin Douglas Tyler’ (10 page Word document), comprising biographical notes by David and / or Richard Tyler on their father, presumably used for the purposes of the ceremony although written February 2020, including the following: CT’s Cambridge years at Emmanuel College; joint activities of CT and Margaret Hughes at Cambridge and their later married life and respective careers and interests; and CT’s donation to Emmanuel College to ‘enable a diverse community of the brightest students to be able to attend the College’ (CT was elected a Benefactor Fellow at Emmanuel and the garden in the centre of South Court was to be named Tyler’s Garden);
5) Event Summary (3 page Word document), comprising a programme of events (afternoon tea, talks by Dr Roland Randall and by Dr Frances Brill, Margaret Tyler Research Fellow in Geography, tree planting in the orchard in memory of Margaret Tyler (a ‘Pond’s Seedling’, a late fruiting plum, planted in the ‘pig area’ of the orchard), admission ceremony and dinner (at which a speech was given by Dr Harriet Allen on the importance of research fellowships in Geography). Also guest lists, including Tyler family representatives and College representatives.
