Scope and Contents
‘Girton College 150th Anniversary Festival and the announcement of the Margaret Tyler Research Fellowship in Geography’: album of photographs taken at Girton and in Cambridge during the Girton 150th anniversary festival, compiled to commemorate the announcement of a gift from Colin Tyler of £1 million to Girton College to establish the Margaret Tyler Research Fellowship. The front cover bears a modern copy of a b/w photograph of Margaret [circa 1955?] eating an apple at a picnic. Includes some historical material such as historical postcards of Girton; photograph of Margaret at her graduation in 1956; and a photograph of Jean Grove, Margaret’s Director of Studies in the 1950s. Also a photograph of Dr Harriet Allen, Senior Fellow and Senior Lecturer in the Cambridge University Geography Dept. Also the following: Margaret Mountford as quizmaster, pages 2-4; Bamber Gascoigne (former presenter of University Challenge and husband of Christina [Ditchburn, Girton 1958] presenting the trophy to the quizwinners, page 5; the Girton 150th anniversary rose, page 27; Dame Karen Pierce, UK Ambassador to the United Nations, giving the fifth and final Girton 150 lecture on the United Nations, page 42; and Baroness Hale, the Visitor, cutting the 150th anniversary cake, pages 42-43.
