Letter to the college., 1590
Scope and Contents
The writer states that his search of the Landbeach records leads him to conclude that the demesne lands are not copyhold, 'and for the truth of the tytle lett some warrant in wrighting be made under the seale of the Colledge for distreining some of the Cattell of the occupiers of some of the meane landes . .. Wherby the occupiers maye be driven to their Replevyns wherby some proceadinge at the Comon Lawe may be had'.
The letter probably relates to the college's suit with John Kyppes (see 196 below). Letters testimonial from Robert Norgate, Master, and the Fellows of CCCC for John Hilles, BA, dated 21 June 1584, now kept elsewhere, were originally found with this handful of papers, clearly because the dorse had been used for rough notes about the Kyppes case.
