Contract and other plans for New Court, 1822 - 1827
Scope and Contents
Nos 1-57 (no. 50 not used) are contract plans, signed by Thomas Phipps and George Ward and witnessed by James Walter junior. The other plans are undated, except for no. 73, and sometimes represent ideas not realised in the event.
Most of the plans were previously bound into a volume and so dimensions are as found, not as they were originally.
Some of the scales are approximate, for instance that given as 1'=5" is actually two and seventh-eighth inches = 10 feet.
Some of the plans show pencilling in of features relating to the 'cocklofts' added by Thomas Henry Lyon in 1920, presumably in his hand.
Many of the Wilkins plans carry notes on materials, and other details such as morticing.
