Letter to the master., 1874-02-18
Scope and Contents
Lewis reports a visit from the architect, Arthur Blomfield, and his opinion that the college could resume the room under Lewis's bedroom without interfering with Blomfield's plan to provide another vestry on the south side; he suggests that at the next vacancy in the living the college should elect 'not someone who is merely a man of promise (as seems to be the case with [Hugh James] Foss, whose name was suggested at our last meeting) but rather someone who has already done good literary work, and is likely to stay with us and do still more work. Such an one, let me venture suggest, we should find in J. Rawson Lumby, who has gained distinction in the department which is so well represented in our library'.
