Letter to his brother Thomas concerning college business, 1604-02-10
Scope and Contents
Matters covered include the cattle of John Sammes; a tender to Mr Scriven (both probably private matters); [William] Greaves and the relative merits of his finding pupils in order to continue his studies and of his travelling abroad; the college's position in respect of mortmain; the procedure for dividing rent corn; the status of ordinances, as opposed to statutes, in a matter concerning the Norwich scholars; potential fellows and a gift to [Richard] Pernam ('Pernham' in Venn) one of his previous poor scholars of 10s from Lady Gaudy solicited on Jegon's behalf by Mr Syday. [Pernam was a Fellow from 1607 to 1614.]
On the verso of the second folio there are, along with the address, a summmary of the 3 principal college matters, and 'Papers relating to East Chinnock Somersetshire' for which the letter perhaps served as a wrapper.
