Tripartite agreement relating to University Street, 1574-08-06

Scope and Contents

The agreement relates to the transfer of the ground on which Parker has made the 'new made' street, now called the University Street on ground lately purchased from King's College (see no. 24 above) and whereas Parker has lately paid to CCCC a certain sum of money [£500], the college will in return grant to the University land in the same street and also undertake to repair the walls of the same and to keep in good order all the books, chained and otherwise, given and to be given by Parker to the University Library and contained in lockers on the N. side of the library.
The land granted to the university is defined as lying partly between the two brick walls in Great St Mary's parish and partly between their new buildings there, the E. head abutting on the King's highway, the breadth at that end being 34 feet 2 inches; the length, E to W to School Lane being 177 feet 3 inches and the breadth at the W end between the brick walls to N and S, 28 feet 1½ inches, with all the posts and rails contained therein.
The residue of the land purchased from King's College is granted to CCCC.
Penalty for not keeping the road, walls and books in repair on monition by the Vice-Chancellor, 3s 4d per week.
On dorse note of delivery of seisin by Henry Gotobed to Matthew Stokys, Esquire Bedell, in the presence of Andrew Perne and others on 25 Jan. 1575 (17 Eliz.).
