Scope and Contents
This is a letter patent of Robert Cooke, Clarenceux Kings of Arms, granting to the Master and Scholars of Trinity Hall the use of the arms that are depicted in the left hand margin. It is signed by Cooke. The document bears the armorial seal in red wax of the office of Clarenceux on a queue. The grant of arms was made at the request of Dr Henry Harvey, the Master of Trinity Hall. The arms granted are based on the family arms of Bishop William Bateman, the founder of the College, however, there are some key differences such as the addition of an ermine border and the removal of a cross patee.
