A note made by Philip Rundle in the album, 1995, reads as follows: "If my identifications are correct (from comparisons with individual portrait photographs in the Board Room Lobby) this picture must have been taken at Christmas time (on one of the original wards in the 1866 building, i.e. Hatton, Griffith, Victoria or Albert) between 1879 when Wherry was appointed Surgeon and 1884 when Paget retired.
