Chairman’s Statement by Dr John Bradfield. Why it is hard to provide extra beds and staff to maintain shorter waiting lists. Financial targets met but problem of Cambridge and Huntington HA spending only 49% of its allocation on Acute services compared with national average of 67%.
Chief Executives report Improved record re cancelled operations but must do better. Levels of complaints from patients and or relatives.

Retirement of Dr Tudor (Radiologist) after 21 year. Pioneered use of ultrasound in Cambridge Reorganisation of patient appointments in Breast Screening Unit. Treatment of aneurysms now available at Addenbrooke’s. Double headed gamma camera to diagnose organ malfunction. Improved testing for prostate cancer etc. pre-natal screening for Downs Syndrome.
Medical Services (Cardiology, Dermatology. Disablement, gastroenterology, GN Medicine, Herpetology, Infectious Diseases, Elderly Nephrology, Rehab. Rheumatology and thoracic Medicine). And statistics and full page photos of Dr Silvia Lachmann with amputee patient. More information on new Medical Admissions. ‘Assessment Ward and new procedures for emergency referrals’. National Award fir Disablement Service Centre and details. New Development in treating Vacuities. Plans for new Diabetes Centre and expansion of Dialysis and Endoscopy.

More community Care as result of Cambridge Vocational Workshop and Club house opened by Anne Campbell MP and out of hours service for patients and careers at weekend. Acute Elderly Assessment Unit to be relocated on Hills Road site in 1997.

New Head of Department, Helen Remington appointed. Ward based dispensing introduced etc. Extra staff in CSSD/TSSU because of increasing numbers of operations comes out. New standards in Medical Records Department to reduce figures of missing notes. £8.9m spent on estate management annually. Improvements for cyclists.
Surgical Services (A and E, ICU, Anaesthetics, Day Surgery, Dental, ENT, General and Transplant Surgery, Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery, Urology) and Full page photo of leg being plastered + statistics Rising demand for Day Surgery. Newly designed expanded Clinic 1 (orthopaedics). Adult Intensive Care details. A and E (third consultant appointed) Plans for a short stay 6 bed ward.
