Scope and Contents

Steve Russell is a local artist whose work has been exhibited around the country. In 2004, Steve was treated at Addenbrooke's following a diagnosis of cancer. Over a period of eighteen months, Steve spent many hours at the hospital and composed a series of drawings and paintings responding to his diagnosis and treatment. This work was exhibited in London last year and has been purchased by art lovers from around the world.

The work will be placed on ward E3, the haematology outpatients' ward where patients who are being treated for cancer will come into the hospital and regularly need to spend several hours receiving treatment. While he was being treated, Steve was cared for by consultant Dr Robert Marcus who has arranged the placing of Steve's donation on the ward.

"We are always looking for ways to improve the appearance of wards and the hospital and putting work like this in appropriate places brightens up otherwise clinical areas but also offers the perspective of a patient who has received treatment. It's great when we get donations by artists of this calibre that really add to the hospital environment" says Damian Hebron, Arts Co-ordinator.
