Biographical / Historical
The Contributory Scheme was established in 1931 as an amalgamation of the Cambridge and District Workers' Hospital Fund, the County Organisation Fund and the Auxiliary Fund. The Cambridge and District Hospital Workers' Fund was to continue operating the 'A' or Cambridge section of the Contributory Scheme, the Hospital the 'B' section covering the rest of the County. The Contributory Scheme was particularly unpopular with the Cambridge and District Hospital Workers' Fund, chiefly because of the latter's loss of identity, thus it was short-lived and replaced in 1932 by the Addenbrooke's Hospital Maintenance Fund (qv). The first meeting was held in 1931, the last on March 1st 1933.
