St Edmund's House, Cambridge, The First Eighty Years: A History, 1970 - 1980
Scope and Contents
Garrett Sweeney's working notes and papers for his history, which was published in 1980. These papers include the final typescript, a sample book cover, and 6 files of working notes as follows: 1) notes on J E Petit, Master 1934-46, and papers on Frederick McMullan, President, d. 26 October 1951; 2) notes on Joseph Whitfield, John McNulty and Cuthbert Waring, Masters 1918-21, 1921-9 and 1929-34 respectively; 3) papers for Sweeney's talks on the history of St Edmund's, including an 18 page typescript which appears to be essentially a condensation of the published history; also benefactions 1910-38; notes on Raymond Corboy and Garrett Sweeney, Masters 1946-64 and 1964-76 respectively, including papers on the proposed Catholic Institute for Advanced Studies / Centre for Advanced Religious Studies; 5) notes on William Sutcliffe and Edmond Nolan, Masters 1897-1904 and 1904-9 respectively; 6) past students - statistical analyses and various lists of students 1930s-1970s. The files date chiefly from the 1970s - most include lists of sources consulted.
