Biographical / Historical

J. A. F. Gregg was made an Honorary Fellow of Christ's College in 1934. There were three generations of the Gregg family at Christ's, since a son and a grandson were alumni as well as Gregg himself. Gregg was Archbishop of Dublin and Primate of Ireland 1920-1938, then Archbishop of Armagh & Primate of All Ireland 1938-1959. He was 'Father' of the Lambeth Conference in 1958. Gregg's daughter Margaret was an outstanding surgeon and the first woman to win the TCD Professor of Surgery's Prize. His other daughter Barbara gained first class honours in Modern Languages at TCD and worked for a time as a codebreaker in the War, latterly becoming a novelist: her two novels have recently been re-published in Ireland.
