'May and Baker': correspondence and related laboratory testing papers, 1937 - 1957
Scope and Contents
Includes: lengthy correspondence between Col. Whitby and Dr A. J. Ewins, May & Baker Ltd, 1939-42, relating to ongoing research and tests on Staphylococcus Aureus 133 ('an unpleasant beast to deal with' in the words of Ewins, but Whitby notes that the result of his tests 'is extremely promising and very much better than the maximum effect one can get with full doses of 693'); includes Whitby's experimental test data for laboratory tests 1938-9, including on 'M & B 693', with original protocol of the assessment of Sulphapyridine (693) and Sulphathiazole (760) for effectiveness against different types of pneumococcus; includes at rear of file experiment data for tests on Staphylococcus aureus and streptococcus.
