Biographical / Historical
The 1st Eastern General Hospital was established in 1908 to prepare medical services for the possibility of the outbreak of war. Although plans were made and training undertaken, no hospitals were built until after war broke out in 1914. The 1st Eastern General Hospital was built in temporary buildings on the land now occupied by the University Library, although the last huts were not removed until the late 1920s. Wherry served as Lieutenant Colonel, RAMC, stationed at the 1st Eastern General Hospital in Cambridge.
