Scope and Contents

Original photograph (print of signed original) of Whitby in military uniform during Second World War, but mainly copies - photographs and scans - of family photographs still held by the Whitby and Kennedy families.Copies include: Whitby as Captain and scrum half of Bromsgrove School 1st XV, Christmas 1913; in military uniform as a Lieutenant in the First World War, 1916; Lionel and Ethel's wedding day, 1922 (taken outside Shelf House (Furnace House) the home of Ethel's uncles William, Trueman and Francis Murgatroyd); several of Lionel and Ethel in uniform during the Second World War and Whitby with Sir Frederick Banting (co-discoverer of insulin) early in the war, both in uniform; four photographs of nurses of the Army Blood Transfusion Service, of which Whitby was Commanding Officer; with family on the steps of the Master's Lodge; Whitby as Vice Chancellor, 1952, with the Duke of Edinburgh (Honorary Doctor of Law) and at the Memorial Service for King George VI. Also includes photographic copies from family album, 'Cambridge Days', including: Whitby receiving his Legion d'honneur medal, 1950; Honorary Degrees procession, 1950; Whitby giving the Presidential address to the International Congress of Clinical Pathologists, 1951; laying the foundation stone for the Downing College Chapel, May 1951; International Congress of Haematologists (at Downing?), Summer 1950; procession as Vice-Chancellor, 1 October 1951.
