Biographical / Historical
Lt.-Col Sir Evan Nepean, Bt, was born in 1909 and matriculated at Downing College in 1928, studying Natural Sciences. In 1933 he was commissioned into the Royal Signals Corps, serving with MI8 during the Second World War, ending the war in Cyprus. He was one of the world's best-known operators of amateur radio, call sign G5YN, and was the last surviving member of the 1936 British Political Mission to Tibet when he died in 2002, aged 92.
