Biographical / Historical

Sicca: 'Nothing is known about Perry Nissy except for what can be inferred from the letter attached to his plan for the landscaping of the College. He must have been a neighbour of William Frere in Suffolk, where the second Master of Downing had a family house. Nissy must have been a landscape gardener of sorts, if not a professional one he was at least a competent amateur. This scheme for a commercial exploitation of the land north of the College, referred to in his letter, appears to be along the lines of the one proposed by Wilkins in 1817'
