DRAFT DEED OF ENFRANCHISEMENT:
Grant, release and enfranchisement of piece of inclosed land called Hodsons Meadow, containing by estimation 4 acres, part arable, part meadow, lying in Cowlinge next to a croft called Pies Croft belonging to the Parsonage of Cowlinge on the south west, abutting on road leading from Kirtling, Cambridge, to Cowlinge Church on the north west; and also all that piece of enclosed arable land containing by estimation 6 acres next to said meadow…; and also all that piece of enclosed arable land containing by estimation 3 acres next to 6 acres piece…; and also all that piece of enclosed pasture containing c. 6 acres called "The Great Pasture" next to said 6 acres piece…; and also all that piece of enclosed land called "The Little Pightle" containing c. 2 acres, formerly meadow / pasture, next to said 3 acres piece; all which said pieces are held at annual rent of £1.13.4; and also all that piece of ground lying in Cowlinge called the 7 acres and containing by admeasurement 6a. 3 r. 14 p., and held of the Manor by apportioned annual quit rent of 15s. 9d. [on tithe map];
to which premises said George Joseph Johnston was admitted tenant 21 Dec 1855 under the will of George Wright, with all mineral, commonable and manorial customary rights; to hold to use and intent that the customary tenure of the premises hereby enfranchised may be enjoyed in free and common socage, discharged from all rents, fines etc.
