Describes an auction at Paskell and Cann in Colchester, some years previously, where an "Adams" microscope was up for sale, with an instruction booklet in a separate lot. Doncaster writes that he had been intending to bid on both, but someone had removed the instruction booklet prior to then buying the microscope. It is assumed that the two Edgar Tarry Adams notebooks were included with the 'box of books'.
