Biographical / Historical
Marion Seward was one of the founding members and Honorary Secretary of the Tipperary Club, which was formed in support of the wives and families of soldiers in Cambridge. The Club had a membership of 800 by 1917, which made it one of the largest in the country, and organised various events for members, including garden parties held in the grounds of the Master's Lodge at Downing College, as well as supporting the war effort by sewing sand bags. The rooms in Fitzroy Street had a nursery attached and a library for members. In May 1919, the war-time Club was dissolved and reorganised as a 'peace-time, self-supporting women's club' [the New Tipperary Club]. Marion Seward was elected as President of the new, reformed Club.
