Biography
Ted Walker (Edward Joseph Walker) was born on 28 November 1934 in Lancing, West Sussex, and educated at Steyning Grammar School and St John's College, Cambridge (B.A. 1956, M.A. 1977). He received an Eric Gregory Award in 1964 and a Cholmondeley Award in 1966. His principal collections of poetry were 'Fox on a Barn Door' (1965), 'The Solitaries' (1967), 'The Night Bathers' (1970), 'Gloves to the Hangman' (1973), 'Burning the Ivy' (1978), 'Hands at a Live Fire: Selected Poems' (1987) and 'Mangoes on the Moon' (1999). In addition to poetry he wrote short stories, plays, children's books, two volumes of autobiography, 'The High Path' (1982) and 'The Last of England' (1993), and a travel book, 'In Spain' (1987). He died on 19 March 2004.
