Biography

Hedli Anderson, singer, reciter, diseuse, married Louis MacNeice, poet, as his second wife in 1942. She had a particular interest in Bertolt Brecht and his contemporaries, and German cabaret music of the 1930's. Many songs were set to music for her by composers and arrangers.

The collection includes material for The cruel wars, for which poems were set to music by Humphrey Searle, William Alwyn, Elisabeth Lutyens, Matyas Seiber, Joseph Horovitz, and others.
