Lord Randolph Henry Spencer Churchill (1849-95), Conservative statesman; third son of the 7th Duke of Marlborough; M.P. for Woodstock, 1874-85, and for South Paddington, 1885-94; Secretary of State for India, 1885-86, Chancellor of the Exchequer, 1886; and father of Sir Winston Churchill.

The correspondence with Gerald Fitzgibbon sheds much light on Churchill's own career.
