Biography

Sir Walter Langdon-Brown (1870-1946), physician, was born Walter Brown in Bedford on 13 August 1870. He was educated at Bedford School and St John's College, Cambridge, and entered St Bartholomew's Hospital in 1894. He qualified in 1897, and subsequently became house-physician to S.J. Gee. Brown was appointed medical registrar at St Bart's in 1906, assistant physician in 1913, and full physician in 1924, retiring from the hospital in 1930. He was also assistant physician, 1900-1906, and full physician, 1906-1922, at the Metropolitan Hospital. He was Regius Professor of Physic at Cambridge, 1932-1935. Following his knighthood in 1935, he changed his name to Langdon-Brown. He died in Cambridge on 3 October 1946.
