Biography

Henry Bence Jones (1813-1873), physician and chemist, was born at Thorington Hall, Yoxford, Suffolk, on 31 December 1813. He attended Harrow, and entered Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1832. He was physician at St George's Hospital, London, 1846-1862, and became licentiate, 1842, and Fellow, 1849, of the Royal College of Physicians, and subsequently Senior Censor. He was Secretary to the Royal Institution from 1860. Jones married his cousin, Lady Millicent Acheson (d. 1887), in 1842. The couple had three sons and four daughters. He died at his home in Brook Street, Grosvenor Square, London, on 20 April 1873.

Miscellaneous correspondence, including one folder devoted to letters on musical matters. There is also a small volume comprised of the order of burial for Henry Robert Bence-Jones (d. 1912), 16 pages.
