Biography

Henry King (1592-1669), poet, was educated at Westminster and Christ Church, Oxford (B.A., 1611; M.A., 1614; D.D., 1625). He became a prebendary of St Paul's, London, 1616; Archdeacon of Colchester, 1617; and canon of Christ Church, Oxford, 1624. He was appointed Dean of Rochester in 1639, and Bishop of Chichester in 1642. King published poems and sermons. He died at Chichester on 30 September 1669.

Scope and Contents

Seventy-eight poems by Henry King, written in a contemporary hand. The volume was probably compiled under the author's supervision. It includes the bookplate of Sir J.A. Brooke. There is an accompanying letter from Margaret Crum, 27 March 1953, describing the collection.
