Biography

Herbert Westren Turnbull (1885-1961), mathematician, was born in Wolverhampton and attended Trinity College, Cambridge, taking the Mathematics Tripos. He was a fellow of St John's College, Oxford, from 1919 to 1926. Turnbull made important contributions in the field of algebra. His works include The mathematical discoveries of Newton (1945).
