Biography

Captain Thomas John Norman Hilken (1901-1969) was born on 23 April 1901, and educated at Merchant Taylors' School and the Royal Naval College, Keyham. He commanded destroyers, 1934-1937, and served in the Admiralty, Naval Intelligence Division, 1937-1939. He was a naval commander during the Second World War, and Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence, 1951-1953. Following his retirement, Hilken was Secretary of the Department of Engineering, Cambridge University, 1954-1967. He received an M.A. in 1957, and was Fellow of University College, Cambridge, 1965-1968. He died on 14 July 1969.
