Biography

John Overall (?1561-1619), Bishop of Norwich, was born in Hadleigh, Suffolk and baptised there in 1561. He went to Cambridge, first attending St John's College and then Trinity, and graduated BA in 1579. He was made a minor fellow of Trinity in 1581. After holding a number of University posts Overall was made Regius Professor of Divinity 1595, a position he held until he resigned 1607. He was also appointed Master of St Catherine's College, Cambridge in 1598. Overall was made Dean of St Paul's Cathedral in 1602, Bishop of Coventry and Lichfield in 1614 and finally Bishop of Norwich in 1618. He died 1619.
