Biography

William Stephen Mansfield (1894-1968) was born on 28 February 1894, and educated in Cambridge at the Perse School and Emmanuel College. During the First World War, he served in the 2nd King Edwards Horse and 8th Hussars. He was advisory agriculturalist to the Department of Agriculture, Cambridge University, 1919-1926; university lecturer in agriculture, 1926-1959; and director of the University Farm, 1929-1959. He became a Fellow of Emmanuel in 1936, and was Vice-Master, 1958-1961. He died on 27 November 1968.
