Biography

William Martin Conway (1856-1937), Lord Conway of Allington, was the son of William Conway (1815-1876) and his wife Elizabeth (1829-1912), née Martin. Conway married Katrina Glidden (1856-1933), daughter of Charles Allen Lampard (d. 1873) and Abigail Lambard (d. 1909), née Williams. Katrina Conway's mother married for a second time, to Manton Marble (1834-1917). William and Katrina Conway had a daughter, Agnes Ethel (1885-1950), who married George Horsfield (1882-1956).

Scope and Contents The collection contains around 4,300 letters, of which the majority are between Martin Conway and his relatives, principally his parents William and Elizabeth Conway; his first wife Katrina, and her mother and stepfather, Abigail and Manton Marble; and his daughter Agnes and her husband George Horsfield. Of correspondents outside the family, only letters to and from Henry Bradshaw and Karl Pearson (the latter nearly all typed copies) survive in any great numbers. The collection also includes...
