Scope and Contents

Rough sketch of the battlefield of Balaclava made by James Thomas Brudenell, seventh earl of Cardigan, and signed: 'Cardigan fecit'. Accompanying note signed 'J. W. R.' states that it was made while the earl was 'dining with Mr and Mrs [Edward] Horsman at the Chief Secretary's Lodge in the Phoenix Park in Dublin - some day in the winter of 1855-6. He described the charge to my sister and made this sketch, and signed it at her request.'
