Biography
Ralph Abercromby, 2nd Lord Dunfermline (1803-1868), was born on 6 April 1803, the son of James Abercromby, 1st Baron Dunfermine, and Mary Anne, first daugther of Egerton Leigh, of High Leigh, Cheshire. He was educated at Eton, c. 1814-1818, before entering the Diplomatic Service in 1821. He was Secretary of the Legation at Berlin (1831-1835) and Minister at Florence, (1835-1838), to the Germanic Conference (1838-1840), at Turin (1840-1851), and at the Hague (1851-1858). He was made K.C.B. in 1851. He died on 12 July 1868 at Colinton House.

Ralph Abercromby, 2nd Lord Dunfermline: Correspondence
A series of letters mostly addressed to Ralph Abercromby when he was British Minister in Turin. The majority are from Marquis Massimo d'Azeglio, President of the Council of the King of Sardinia. On a fly-leaf is a numbered list of the letters from the Marquis Massimo d'Azeglio, and a list of the contents of the volume, both in Lord Dunfermline's hand.
