Biography

Gustavus Adolphus Schutt Schneider (1858-1941) was born on 10 September 1858 in London. He attended the Gymnasium at Frankfort, before entering Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, in 1877 (B.A., 1880; M.A., 1883). He was ordained deacon in 1882, and priest in 1884. Schneider was Vice-Principal of Ridley Hall, Cambridge, 1882-1883 and 1885-1898; Professor of Divinity at Trinity College, Toronto, 1883-1885; and the Librarian at Gonville and Caius, 1908-1928. He died on 9 October 1941.

Scope and Contents Selections of correspondence on theological subjects, 1852-1892, compiled by G.A.S. Schneider dealing mainly with textual criticism of the New Testament, 1022 pages. The letters are arranged chronologically under five subject headings, with a preface and indexes. The versos are blank throughout. The correspondence is principally with B.F. Westcott, Bishop of Durham, and, from 1864, with A.A. Vansittart. About 250 of the letters are drawn upon. A small number of letters have been transcribed...
