J. Stevens's background is unknown. Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43 BC) was a Roman philosopher, and a poet, rhetorician and humorist.

A translation of Book I of Cicero's Disputationes Tusculane, signed at the end by J. Stevens, 78 folios: (p. v) title; (p. vii) preface; (p. 1) translation. There are occasional corrections in another hand, of a nature to suggest that this may have been a student's exercise.
