Biography

Johannes Fredericus Gronovius (1611-1671), classical scholar and critic, was born on 8 September 1611 in Hamburg, Germany, and became Professor of History at Deventer, the Netherlands. He died on 28 December 1671 at Leiden in the Netherlands. The second hand may be that of Jacobus Gronovius (1645-1716), who in 1678-1679 re-edited his father J.F. Gronovius' edition of Livy's works, adding notes of his own

Scope and Contents

A collection of phrases found in the works of Livy arranged in alphabetical order and followed by references, 112 folios. The original entries were written for the most part on the recto and verso of alternate leaves. A second hand has added in the intervening spaces a number of additional entries. On fo. 1 are the words 'Biblioteca Iliantariana MSS p. 48'.
